The image is presented in a cartoony and comic book style which perfectly relates to MF Doom’s sinister villain alter ego and his extensive use of sampling on the album in which he samples from vintage animated episodes of Spiderman, Superman and Fantastic Four. The illustration depicts MF Doom with his iconic metal mask, pouring chemicals in his breakfast cereal, with other small images of people tied to trees and other characters. This effectively pays homage to the New York 70s-80s graffiti street artists that were the pioneers of the culture and movement of Hip-hop. The artwork in my opinion is aesthetically pleasing with its beautiful use of colour and the image and typography are presented in a style similar to graffiti street art. The album cover was painted by the artist Jason Jägel and designed by Jeff Jank. The underground rap album ‘ Mm.Food’ by MF Doom perfectly expresses the culture of classic Hip-hop in the album artwork and encapsulates the content of MF Doom’s music.

Pat Dolan (1986) sates that “Albums should be as bold and dashing as we can make them they should stand out in dealers’ windows screaming for attention, yet always reflecting the spirit of the music inside”. MF Doom: Mm.Food (2004) label: Rhymesayers Entertainment, design: Jason Jägel and Jeff JankĪlbum covers can be just as important than the content of the music the artwork needs to be able to effectively relate to the style of the music whilst also catching the viewers’ attention.
